Shelburne Historic Landmarks

Shelburne's rich history spans from its 1763 charter through the Revolutionary War era to the Gilded Age and beyond. Today, visitors can explore this heritage through an exceptional collection of historic sites, from two National Historic Landmarks to beautifully preserved churches, a continuously operating 19th-century country store, and an entire historic village district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These attractions offer unique opportunities to experience living history, from touring grand estates and museums to stepping into authentic Vermont shops that have served the community for generations.

Shelburne Farms

One of the best-preserved examples of a model agricultural estate in America, featuring 1,400 rolling acres on Lake Champlain.

Shelburne Historical Society

Community-based historical society dedicated to "Honoring the Past to Inform the Future" by collecting, preserving, and presenting Shelburne's rich history. Located in the Shelburne History Research Center & Museum at the Lower Level of Shelburne Old Town Hall, offering virtual exhibits, archival collections, community events including speaker series and author talks, and weekly Saturday hours. Open Saturdays 11 AM - 1 PM. Free admission.

SS Ticonderoga at Shelburne Museum

The last remaining side-wheel passenger steamer with a vertical beam engine in the United States, permanently housed at Shelburne Museum.

Shelburne Country Store

An authentic Vermont country store housed in an 1830s building in the heart of historic Shelburne Village. Seven rooms filled with Vermont-made gifts, candy, maple products, and local treasures.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Stunning Gothic Revival church designed by William Appleton Potter in 1886, featuring rare Tiffany grisaille stained glass windows. Stone construction funded by the Harrington family and enhanced by the Vanderbilt-Webb family.

Shelburne Village Historic District

74-acre historic district centered at Route 7, Harbor Road, and Falls Road, featuring 18th-20th century architecture including Federal-style houses, three stone churches, and the 1796 Shelburne Innโ€”the oldest surviving building.
